“Blue Is Brown Season”

OR

“The Winter of Life”

Preston Gravitt

“Blue Is Brown Season” is one of a series of original paintings by Preston Gravitt. The series conceptualizes Seasons of the year and common phrases. By first mentally reversing the colors Blue and Brown and second by redefining phrases connected with the season’s imagery, the painting’s naked and exposed wood grain suggests a river by a cemetery and simple morbid imagery. The imagination only can visualize a blue sky and blue river with brown leaves and trees accenting the landscape. The imagery and lines, however, use their own suggestions from whatever the observer can imagine.
